Sowers and Scatterers: The Hidden Reason Many Never See Their Harvest
“You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough… You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” — Haggai 1:6–7
There’s a difference between a sower and a scatterer. Both move their hands. Both release seed. Both look busy. But only one expects a harvest.
Scatterers move without intention. They give, create, post, serve, and even invest, but with no clear direction, no boundary, no target. They cast seed into every space that feels urgent or emotional, hoping something—anything—will finally grow.
A sower, however, is deliberate. They know their seed. They know their soil. They know their season. A sower plants expecting a harvest and plans for it. Their giving is strategic. Their building is measured. Their generosity is guided by vision, not guilt.
Scatterers Give Emotionally — Sowers Give Intentionally
Many faith-driven entrepreneurs struggle here. We want to serve. We want to give. But somewhere along the way, we began to confuse ministry with martyrdom.
We’ve been scattering our energy, creativity, and business seed into every opportunity, every collaboration, every idea — and still wondering why the harvest seems delayed.
But the truth is, scatterers don’t plan for harvest; sowers do. A scatterer releases without alignment. A sower releases in expectation.
Sowers understand that increase isn’t greed; it’s stewardship. They don’t apologize for charging for their services, because they know what they’ve sown. They’ve labored, studied, invested, prayed, and refined their craft.
And when you’ve sown intentionally, it’s not robbery to expect a return. It’s divine order.
A sower knows:
What they’ve planted — the value, wisdom, and excellence they’ve released.
Where they’ve planted — the right soil, people, and partnerships that can sustain growth.
When to look for the harvest — because they’ve discerned the seasons.
A sower doesn’t chase outcomes. They track them. They water what’s theirs and wait with expectation.
Scatterers often live in cycles of frustration: giving too much, charging too little, over-delivering, under-valuing, and starting from scratch each year. But sowers live in rhythm. They reap, rest, and reinvest.
If you’ve been scattering your gifts, trying to be everywhere at once — pause. Ask yourself:
“Am I sowing with intention, or scattering from fear?”
A sower knows what they’ve been assigned to cultivate, and they don’t throw seed where God hasn’t called them to build.
Before you close out this year, take inventory: Where have you been scattering energy without clarity? Where have you been giving without expecting? Where have you been planting, but never preparing for the harvest?
Your next level of growth won’t come from doing more — but from sowing with purpose.
