Money Reveals What You Worship
Most people think their financial struggle is that they don’t have enough. “If I could just make more… get a raise… add another client… pick up another job…” We’ve all said it. But Heaven is dealing with something deeper.
The issue isn’t always the amount you have. The issue is often your relationship with money.
And until that relationship is healed, more won’t solve the problem. It will only multiply the dysfunction already present.
This week, the Lord confronted me with a message for those who feel stuck, restricted, or constantly in cycles of “not enough.” It’s simple, but it cuts straight to the root:
You don’t need more money until you fix what you have.
To understand why we struggle with money, we have to go back—farther back than budgets or careers. We have to look at the messages we received as children. Think about the first time someone handed you money. What did they say?
For me, it was simple: “Go buy yourself some candies.”
So, I learned early that money = spending. Money equals pleasure. Money equals treating yourself. Money equals giving away to be generous. Money equals meeting a desire.
Nothing in that early training pointed to purpose, stewardship, legacy, or worship.
And for many of us, our childhood lessons became our adult defaults.
We spend because that’s what we were trained to believe money is for. We save only to spend later. We work to buy what we want. We upgrade because someone handed us more.
Without realizing it, we inherited an identity around money. And that identity may be corrupted.
Dr. Myles Munroe said, “When purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable.”
We've applied this truth to relationships, calling, identity—but rarely to money. Yet it’s exactly what is happening in so many lives. When we don’t know God’s purpose for money…
we overspend
we hoard
we fear
we chase more
we misuse what we’re given
we repeat generational patterns we never questioned
This is why healing your relationship with money is not optional. It’s essential!
The Lord is restoring our financial identity because of what He intends to entrust to us next.
Why God Must Heal Your Relationship with Money
This isn’t about restriction, fear, or shame. God is not trying to punish you. He is positioning you.
I’ve sensed deeply that God is preparing His people for increase—real, tangible, measurable increase. But before He releases more, He wants to make sure we can be trusted with it.
We want more, but God wants maturity.
Before He makes you a Kingdom financier, an investor in His work, or a steward of greater resources… He checks your internal system.
How do you earn?
Why do you spend?
What motivates your giving?
What governs your saving?
What fuels your investing?
Money reveals the truth every time.
The Primary Purpose of Money
Before money is anything else… Money is worship. That’s the part we rarely talk about.
When God gives us the power to get wealth (Deut. 8:18), it’s not so we can accumulate status; it’s so He can establish His covenant.
The tithe is not God “taking 10%.” It is your money bowing. It is surrender. It is alignment.
And when the first 10 bows, the rest follows.
God cares about the 90% just as much as the 10%. Why?
Because it’s the 90% that goes back into the world. It’s the 90% that touches culture. It’s the 90% that reveals who you worship when no one is watching.
The Question That Changes Everything
If you take only one thing from this message, take this:
Before you do anything with money ask: “Who am I worshiping with this decision?”
Am I worshiping God? Am I worshiping fear? Am I worshiping the enemy? Am I worshiping myself?
This simple question realigns your entire financial life.
God Is Preparing You for More
I sense strongly that God is about to surprise many of His people with financial provision we have not seen before. But it will not be random. It will come to those who have:
invited Him back into their finances
surrendered their money identity
submitted their habits
healed their internal money system
restored honor, obedience, and worship
For those resisting tithing, resisting surrender, resisting the internal work; this is your invitation. Not to give under pressure, but to come under alignment.
God is restoring your relationship with money because He intends to trust you with more.
